İZMİR TİRE WIRED WEAVE / İZMİR ÖDEMİŞ WIRED WEAVE / GILBIDANLI
İzmir Tire Wired Weave is woven in Tire and Ödemiş districts of İzmir province. Due to the importance attached to dowry by the people living in İzmir Ödemiş and Tire districts, it had continued to be widely used until 50-60 years ago. Since it is an important dowry item in the region, it is used to decorate the circumcision bed in circumcision feasts. Bed sheets are especially used as bed skirts so as to reduce the wearing down of the ostentatious and precious embroideries within the region. It is one of the weavings that did not survive today. This weaving is also called “Gılbıdanlı” and is woven in different and various sizes used for different purposes. It is especially made for the bride's dowry as a traditional custom.
İzmir Tire Wired Weave/Ödemiş Wired Weave / Gilbidanli Weave is woven in striped or plaid/checkered/plaid plain weave weft, in which silk and gold thread warp and weft are used in normal twisting. In some weavings, the Indonesian method for tie-dye (ikat) technique is used. After the weaving process is over, it is embroidered with techniques such as wrapping, herringbone, thread-counting work, Turkish work, treillage / wire breaking / ordeal work. In the region, embroidery is carried out with gold thread, strip or wire obtained from precious metals like gold and silver on the edges of weaving. Natural colours of white silk, shades of yellow, lavender and red are used in the weave. These weaves have patterns such as stripes and çatma/plaid. İzmir Tire Wired Weave was used in the production of towel, mirror cover, waistband, bed sheet, bundle, handkerchief and shirt.
